You might have seen Lassie, Beethoven and other celebrity dogs perform awesome dog tricks and reel at the sight of your extremely aggressive dog. Many forget to understand that although their pets are now classified as domestic animals, there was once a period in time when these animals went out in the wild and hunted other animals for a living. The problem will only get worse once the dog develops into a larger, headstrong and more formidable animal.
It is important for you to train your own emotions and tendencies first, whenever faced with a fully-fledged adult dog. You might remember the times when you hugged what used to be a tiny puppy that you adored. You can do two things to correct your dog's behavior. The first and easier thing to do would be to take your dog to a training center. They have the expertise and experience. The second and harder course of action is to learn about dog training on your own and spend some time on it. The two have both positive and negative aspects.
Aggressive Dogs Psychological Makeup
The causes for aggression could be a lot of things. Generally speaking, it is both experiential and conditional. Negative and traumatic experiences may affect its emotions. Furthermore, its conditions or environment could also be a mitigating factor that influences its behavior. It's interesting to note that a lot of bad vibes could eventually lead to a dog's current temperament. In the same way with humans, dogs who feel scared, who are abused, isolated from social interaction, and neglected may exhibit the same behavior. Although, humans may tend to respond and act in a more complicated way. As the owner, it is your job to identify which particular condition is present in your dog and to find out what exactly is causing it.
Important Dog Training Gear
One of the most effective and respected tools in training dogs is the dog clicker. However, it is vital to know beforehand that clicker training is not all about having a magical tool that would instantaneously turn your dog into a disciplined and submissive animal. A clicker is merely a tool - one of the many that you need to employ to aid you.
Your primary thrust should be bent on facilitating a rudimentary mental association between three general thoughts. The first one is to associate the sound that a dog clicker makes to something that will make the dog feel good. Your next task would be to then connect that feeling of wellness, security and fulfillment with a particular chore or action that the dog must do first.
Remember, the dog clicker has no magical properties. The thing just creates a loud clicking sound that can be heard by the dog. The function that it makes is simply to grab the situation and make your dog more aware that you are issuing verbal commands. It is like clapping your hands or using a megaphone to get the attention of people inside a room. In so doing, you are thus creating a semblance of a link between the auditory stimulus to a potential and incoming gratification that will be given to the dog. Afterwhich, you will then establish the causal connection, between the thing that gives the dog fulfillment to something that it must do before it gets it.
Remember these two words: association and repetition. These two words will form the basis of aggressive dog training. By doing so, you are in essence generating a linkage between gratification and the clicking sound. If performed correctly, this would also help you create a conditional parameter by which gratification would ensue. Simply stated, you are making the dog understand that you before it gets the gratification, it must do something. Another concept that one must latch unto is consistency. Its importance is vital in strengthening the training regimen. It is through consistency, that actions and words are imprinted again and again in the dog's mind. These ideas were formulated from the precepts of psychology. Various behavior modification programs are utilized to change the behavior of humans as well as animals. Although not all creatures are rational by nature, almost all of them are reactive. That simply is understood that when you do something, there must be a matching reaction to it. In this situation, an aggressive dog would eventually be conditioned or trained to act in accordance with your will provided that its expectations will be met.
